We recently moved to Bishop and have been blown away by this place — the people, the energy, the creativity, and the sheer number of great things happening. There is a lot here. And honestly, it was hard to keep track of it all.

So I built BishopLocal.com as a test — an experiment to see if this is something people here actually want, use, and value.

The goal is simple: one place to find what’s happening in Bishop. An events calendar that pulls together information from all over, so it’s easier to discover what this community has to offer and easier to participate in it.

This matters to me personally. My family and I live in a converted school bus, and we travel a lot, but Bishop is now home. In our travels, I’ve noticed that places with clear, shared sources of local event information often feel more connected. People show up more. They meet each other. Things grow.

I’ve seen that happen before. Back in 1999, I built a community calendar in Halifax, Nova Scotia called BeTheChange.ca. It was focused on activism and local involvement, and it helped more people find ways to participate in meaningful work. I’ve never forgotten that.

BishopLocal.com is a first pass. It takes a lot of time and a fair amount of money to build and maintain. I’m happy to invest in it if it is genuinely useful to the community.
